Valentine’s Day Teddy Bears – Why Are They So Popular?
We all know that teddy bears have been around for years but officially got that name from Theodore Roosevelt. We also know that Elvis Presley would rather be your teddy bear than your lion or tiger. But why are teddy bears so well loved as Valentine's Day gifts?
The first Valentine was supposedly written by St. Valentine. He was in jail for the acting marriages even with a ban on marriages by Royal leader Claudius. The royal leader wanted the men to be soldiers in the army and he believed that married men with families are less likely to want to be soldiers. But Valentine nonstop to perform marriages and was place in jail. He supposedly fell in like with the daughter of the jailer and he wrote her a letter on the day he as executed - February 14th. It was signed "From Your Valentine." That is one of the tales anyway.
So, that is where Valentine's started. For years the tradition has progressed and nonstop. From giving letters, notes or cards, to giving paper dolls dressed like the gift giver and giving small tokens of like or friendship.
It is now the busiest time of year for people who sell teddy bears. It has become common to combine a bouquet of Plants with a teddy bear or to give another gift of bracelets with a bear as well.
But why teddy bears? I reckon it is just so as Elvis Presley said - teddy bears are the kinds of things you "like enough." They are cute and cuddly and grant comfort. Valentine's Day teddy bears are around for much longer than Plants or chocolates and they are a constant reminder to the person who receives it that the gift giver likes them. They tell that special a name that you want them to hug you and dredge up you and reckon about you often.
