The origin of the teddy bear actually dates all the way back to 1902. President Roosevelt was on a hunting trip and refused to shoot a bear that looked tired and tired to a tree. After that made the news, a shopkeeper and his wife started making plush teddy bears that had button eyes.
Ever since that point, the stuffed bears were known as teddy bears and started becoming a produced toy. Soon, other companies started making the teddy bears and although the basic appearance of the bears stayed the same for some time, some makers started adding little touches and changes to the bears to make them different.
Antique teddy bears range in price greatly depending on the maker, the age of the bear and the condition of the bear. Teddy bears that were preserved and not used as toys can still be found in excellent condition and are valuable.
Bears that were used by children and show more wear are not as valuable. Most collectors of antique teddy bears love the warmth and happiness that the bears bring to their homes.
After many years, companies started marketing and producing their own line of teddy bears using different colors, filling, fabrics and unique markings that were easily recognizable. Some of the old-fashioned button eyes were replaced with other types of materials, and more detail was put into the bears.
Though there have been many changes and alterations to the teddy bear since its beginning, the charm and love of a teddy bear still remains timeless. For years, they have brought comfort to children and adults, and are commonly used as a token of love.
Antique teddy bears can be found at flea markets, auctions, road shows and online. There are accessories and clothing that some teddy bears have and if you can find an older bear in excellent condition with all of the original accessories or clothing, it can be worth a lot of money to devoted collectors.
