Antique Steiff bears were originally made with mohair instead of felt, which was a first in children’s toys. After the success of the store in London, the company brought their unique bears to the United States and earned a prestigious award for the unique design and look.
The most characteristic trait of the antique Steiff bears is the famous button in the ear. This phrase was coined to represent the unique placement of the button, which is embossed with the company’s first stuffed animal, the elephant. The button was placed on the ear of each and every teddy bear that was made.
